Privacy Policy

When running the Chachipe Youth contest, the Open Society Institute (hereinafter referred to as OSI) and the Open Society Archives at Central European University (hereinafter referred to as OSA Archivum) collect and process personally identifiable information (personal data) about website users. This Privacy Policy, together with the relevant legal obligations, governs the use of these data.

The Chachipe server, like most standard website servers, uses log files that collect Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, browser types, Internet Service Providers (ISP), referring/exit pages, platform types, date/time stamps, and numbers of clicks and their locations pages. This information is usedto analyze trends, administer the site, diagnose problems with our servers, and to gather broad demographic information for aggregate use. This information is not linked to personally identifiable information.
The other type of personal data comprises information given by the users about themselves, either explicitly or implicitly, when registering for or using the services of the Chachipe site. These include limited personal profile information given by the users themselves for participation in the Chachipe Youth contest and the conclusions that can be drawn from the photos uploaded, comments and other kinds of posted information. Such conclusions can be drawn by OSI or OSA Archivum, the users of the Chachipe site and third parties monitoring communications alike.

OSI and OSA Archivum are limiting the range of recorded data that are technically necessary to provide the service to the minimum required by the IT system and by law. After the expiration of the data retention period prescribed by legal provisions, OSA Archivum and OSI will irreversibly delete these data. The second type of information is provided by the users themselves, including the extended registration form, which is kept private. Minimum requirements for registration to post comments on the site are: username, e-mail address, password. OSI and OSA Archivum do not check the authenticity of the data provided by the users about themselves.

OSI and OSA Archivum will use neither the personal data relating to the use of the Chachipe site (more explicitly, commenting) nor the personal data relating to contest participation or uploaded, posted content for purposes other than providing and developing the Chachipe Youth contest related services. OSI and OSA Archivum will not forward, share, sell or trade any personal data to third parties except as required by law.

OSI employs a technical data processor, Itent Informatikai Kft., which hosts the servers for the Chachipe Youth site and technically maintains the services. The physical storing and processing of data is taking place in Budapest, Hungary, at the headquarters of Itent Informatikai Kft. Further information about data processing for the Chachipe Youth contest, and about personal data recorded about the person concerned, can be requested in writing from: photo@romadecade.org, phone: +36-30-250-2635, fax: + 36-1-327-3260.

Photos uploaded for the Chachipe Youth contest, comments posted, or other types of information, typically contain personal data relating to so-called third persons (other than the user and the service provider). In the ideal case, such data and photos are uploaded and made available to visitors to the Chachipe Youth contest website on the basis of the informed consent of the persons concerned. See the Author's Declaration at: http://demo.itent.hu/romaphoto2008/index.php?content=20

In practice, however, this is not always feasible. Therefore, users of the Chachipe site must ensure and be held responsible for ensuring that the rights relating to the personality and personal data of the individuals concerned (e.g., subjects appearing in photos) will not be violated, from either legal or ethical points of view. The Author's Declaration states: "I hereby represent and warrant to OSI and OSA Archivum that the photo models appearing on the Work have duly consented to the depiction; the Work has been shown to the photo models and they have granted their above consent accordingly."

In case persons appearing in works have not granted their consent to the depiction, OSI and OSA Archivum will remove the work from the publicly available domain of the Chachipe Youth contest and cancel the entrant's participation in the contest . OSA Archivum and OSI will not judge the justifiedness of such requests.

OSI and OSA Archivum are subject to Hungarian and, in a broader sense, EU data protection law, and will observe the provisions of these laws. In other countries from which users visit the Chachipe Youth site, the level of protection of personal data may be lower. However, for the Chachipe Youth site OSI and OSA Archivum guarantee the Hungarian/EU level of data protection.
